The Future of Man

After so long,
We are beginning to understand
The implications of our ideas
And the true nature of the world.

Our ideals were:
Democracy, Egalitarianism
Truth, Beauty
And a fundamental valuation of Life.

We are humans,
And we have our morals
But still, we have never really answered
"Why me, rather than any other?"

There can be
No necessary reason to explain
Why some things happen to some
And others to others.

The Future of Man

Throughout history each human has always relied on their moral judgment - on their ability to do an individual right. But now time has passed, our ancestors' actions have long since manifested, and so the true purpose of our morals is now revealed.

We are not unique individuals. Rather, we are each slightly variant forms of the species Homo sapiens. We can be happy we are the dominant form of life on this planet, but we should also recognize what that means. The success of a species is dependent on its ability to survive, adapt and proliferate more of itself. Humankind excels at all of these characteristics - this is our curse.

We fooled ourselves into helping the whole, while only ever thinking of ourselves. And now, the whole is great - yet each and all of us feel incomplete.

It is time for man to re-evaluate his purpose.

We were not meant to be - we simply are. We were meant to survive adolescence, propagate as much of our genetic material as possible, and thereafter die. We were meant - to be finite.

Nature never expected the good of the individual and the good of the species to diverge as greatly as it has - and that is why we must no longer leave anything up to Nature. Nature loves the broad strokes of history, but she loves no man.
